Q.   Describe your business and how you got started.
A. I started the business after receiving my licenses in Plumbing, Gas, HVAC, and Electric in 2002, because I wanted to offer a first rate customer service Plumbing company which was lacking in this area. We offer the same prices 24 hours a day. We do not change our rates after 5:00 pm like most Plumbing companies do. We recognize the fact that in our area most families have a double income household and cannot afford to take time off from work to get things done on their own.
Q.   What is unique about your company?
A. We really stand out in our work ethic and our customer service. This really shows in our customer ratings. I cannot tell you how many jobs I have received without even quoting a price, just because of our ServiceMagic customer rating! We offer great work at a great value and that is what separates a “good” company from a “great” company.
Q.   What is the craziest experience you've had on the job?
A. A woman actually cried because she didn't believe that she could get anybody to come over after midnight to fix a leak that she had. Not only did we get her water turned back on, she could not believe how much money we saved her.
Q.   How do you find and keep good employees?
A. I search for someone with a good attitude and then I treat them with respect. I would rather have someone who is willing to learn the trade, with good customer relations, than someone that is already great, but with a bad attitude.
Q.   What advice would you give to another pro about keeping his costs down?
A. Train your people well, and keep call backs down. We have a 2% call back rate and that comes from good training. I am only as good as my employees.
Q.   What is the one thing you wish you would have known before starting your own business?
A. ServiceMagic!!!
Q.   What mistakes do you see your competition make over and over again?
A. Sending unqualified people over to do work. I have had many jobs where I’ve been called in to fix other companies’ mistakes.
Q.   What is the one tool you could never live without?
A. ServiceMagic ratings! I can't stress enough how much those ratings helped us grow our business.
Q.   What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?
A. Weightlifting and skiing.

A. Customer Service, Customer Service, Customer Service!
Q.   Were you skeptical of joining ServiceMagic and/or using the Internet to garner leads? If so, why?
A. At first, you never know about a company. And usually most lead generating companies promise something that and never comes through. Now I only advertise through ServiceMagic—because they have increased my business tenfold.
Q.   Were you happy with previous advertising/marketing methods? Why did you eliminate them?
A. I eliminated all of my other advertising, because it did not bring back the profit margin that ServiceMagic generates for me.
Q.   Since joining ServiceMagic, have your marketing costs decreased and if so by what percentage? (How much are you now saving?)
A. Yes, my advertising cost is now around 8-12%—which is where it should be.
Q.   How has ServiceMagic helped you grow your business?
A. All I can say is that ServiceMagic is the best thing that ever happened to my company. You have to use all the tools to your advantage and it will work. I could never have marketed my company to all the areas that ServiceMagic has allowed me to break into. In 10 months of being a member of ServiceMagic my company has received 66 Customer Service Ratings and those ratings have really made my company grow!!
