Shopvac Vacuum Cleaners

14 Gallon Contractor - Purchased in 2006
Rating:

Strengths: Has strong motor that creates excellent vacuum and blowing capabilities. Fairly light weight and carrying handle in good location. Easy to clean and great assortment of attachments.

Weaknesses: Light weight caster wheels which came with unit break due to normal usage on different surfaces. Cannot keep up with replacements at first. Had to purchase aftermarket heavy duty casters to replace stock units.
Locking fasteners that hod Top motor cover to canister unlock inadvertantly. Cannot keep fasteners locked. Very dangerous carrying down stairs or loading into vehicle.

What You Wanted to Know Before You Bought It: Terrible casters and Top locking mechanism.

What Would You Tell the Maker of This Tool: Install heavy casters on Contractor models and a better engineered lock mechanism for container.

Shop vac hangup pro - Purchased in 2004
Rating:

Strengths: 20 ft. hose! smaller diameter hose also fits with other brand vacuums. Light weight, vertical shape is easy to carry and store. Powerful 4.5 HP motor sucks up everything it comes close to. Angled swivel head floor attachment can get into any corner and on top of cabinets.

Weaknesses: The motor burned itself up after 3 years of use.

What You Wanted to Know Before You Bought It: That the motor was prone to overheating and eventually sparking and seizing up.

What Would You Tell the Maker of This Tool: Design better cooling system for the motor.

Shop-Vac MN: 2010 - Purchased in 2003
Rating:

Strengths: work well for small jobs like removing water to make a small tile repair or cleaning dust from underneath a refrigerator while using a brush to clean the coils.

Weaknesses: The hose will detach it self while dumping the can. You will have to reposition it in order to use it again. The unit has poor balance.

What You Wanted to Know Before You Bought It: That the hose requires work to use the vacuum cleaner

What Would You Tell the Maker of This Tool: I would say to the maker if he was taking me to Ruth Chris that the vacuum cleaner needs to be better balanced, too top heavy. The hose need to be longer and the capacity just a little larger.

1 X 1 - Purchased in 2006
Rating:

Strengths: This is a small and portable vacuum. Great power and small size is great when space on service vans is limited. Customers like the fact that we clean up our own mess.

Weaknesses: Electrical cord too short. Carrying a 25' to 50' extension cord comes in handy.

What You Wanted to Know Before You Bought It: Cord length.

What Would You Tell the Maker of This Tool: Just make the cord longer.
