Ryobi Cordless Drills

18volt one for all - Purchased in 2005
Rating:

Strengths: light weight ,has the power when you need it ,all in ones batterys fit all ryobi tools ,inexpensive ,the best value for the money in its price range !!!!Batterys are inexpensive to replace
bought this in the all in one KIt !!

Weaknesses: bulky for tight spots ,keyless chuck loosens if the chuck is bumped against a work surface while running forward ,the nicad battery only lasts a from an hour to two hours under heavy use batterys are great for about two years ,charger is easily damaged

What You Wanted to Know Before You Bought It: Knew all I needed to the price was right and if one of my guys broke it I wasnt out all the money I would have been to replace one of the more expensive tools

What Would You Tell the Maker of This Tool: Theyve made the tool better by offering a lithium battery model which has more power and the drill isnt as large as the original all in one ,which fits into a few tighter spaces

Rating:

Strengths: Batteries run just as long if not longer than the competitors, it isn't heavy, interchanges well with the other 1+ series. I love this tool. I have the drill, the recip saw and the radio...had to have something to listen to.

Weaknesses: Don't like the chuck problem...it loosens while in use. Wish they made a battery charger/radio.

What Would You Tell the Maker of This Tool: Personally, I would improve bit storage. The two bit storage holders on the back of the grip just do NOT work. Maybe but them back on the top. Oh yeah, and the battery charger/radio thing.

Rating:

Strengths: Batteries are long lasting, plenty of power, recharageable, and last for about a year with everyday use. The drill is average weight, but very easy to handle.

Weaknesses: Being cordless no battery will last all day.

What You Wanted to Know Before You Bought It: no further informatio needed.

What Would You Tell the Maker of This Tool: Make the batteries changeable with their new product.

Ryobi Drills (various Models) - Purchased in 2007
Rating:

Strengths: I am a huge Ryobi fan. I have three drills for about the price of a Dewalt that all my friends rave about. If you can, purchase the new Lithium Ion Batteries. They are far superior to their other batteries. I have almost all the cordless tools they have, and the new batteries really add power to the tools, especially the cordless circular and recip saw.

Weaknesses: I did have similar issues with the chuck not holding bits, especially with smaller drill bits. I was tightening the bits with the trigger and holding like you do with most bits. What I discovered, is that if you really want a bit to hold (especially small bits), grab the chuck with two hands. One holding the chuck and one just to the left of it. Tighten it down. You will find that it tightens about 1/2 for 1 inch more if you do this. Once I started doing this, the problem has pretty much disappeared.

What You Wanted to Know Before You Bought It: Nothing really except for the new batteries. I beat the living crap out of these tools, and they hold up great. I own 5 drills, 2 recips, circ saw, jig, lights, sander. The jig has some issues with holding blades, I have not figured out yet.

What Would You Tell the Maker of This Tool: They have changed the design somewhat with each model. I really liked the model that stored two bits up on the top back of the drill. Other then that, I would tell them to survey users more before making changes. Sometimes companies filled compelled to change something to "bring in more sales", but they change or get rid of a feature that was working well.

Strengths: It lastes about a year to a year and a half in my work
Every time I replace it it cost's less than the last time I bought it.

Weaknesses: The chuck doesn't hold very good & because of that I have lost drill bit's down inside wall's

What Would You Tell the Maker of This Tool: Longer lasting charge on batteries, and fix the chuch problems
