Dyson Vacuum Cleaners

DC17 Absolute Animal - Purchased in 2007

Strengths: This vacuum does the job very well. I have a dog that sheds 365 days of the year & we have used it almost everyday & it still vacuums as though it's never been used. Great attachments for reaching corners or stairs.

Weaknesses: Price was a little high but, compared to buying a cheaper vacuum every year it seems to have been a good purchase. Also the hose is a little short without the handle attachment.

What You Wanted to Know Before You Bought It: Nothing, researched it before purchase

What Would You Tell the Maker of This Tool: I would like the hose a little bit longer when the handle attachment is not convenient for use.

Strengths: The greatest vacuum for animal hair, it picks up every single one of them! If you have cats or dogs that shed a lot, this is the vacuum to bye. Incredible vacuum power! They are also light to push.

Weaknesses: None. A little expensive

What You Wanted to Know Before You Bought It: Nothing really only that it is somewhat difficult to clean.

What Would You Tell the Maker of This Tool: A better canister, is a little difficult to empty the dust and trash completely for it gets stuck in the top and I have to use a pointed instrument to get up there to clean it thoroughly.

Strengths: As a professional carpet cleaner I have found that most residential vacuums are not worth the money. The Dyson however is a happy exception. One of the keys to a good vacuum is a floating head that adjust to the carpet height, the Dyson has this feature. The idea of a beater bar is to barely touch the face fibers and vibrate them so the dirt comes up and out not to brush the dirt across the face fibers thus abrading them and causing additional wear. The bagless container unlike Mr. Oreck’s claims of releasing dust in the air does contain the dirt nicely the key is to take the container outside to your garbage can and open it there. The bottom releases nicely with a press of the thumb and you do not even have to touch the dirt if done properly. I own one and I own a Carpet cleaning company enough said .

Weaknesses: Plastic is plastic and some of the hinge points are susceptible cracking. A maintenance manual explaining how to clean out the elbows would be helpful and a rehydrator chemical to insure that the joints do not become brittle would be a excellent add. Also joining into the CRI would be a great add along with recommending that to the client that a professional annual cleaning by a certified carpet cleaner of your carpets is a must. The vast majority of the carpet manufacturers are, now requiring this service in order to maintain your warranty on new carpet. Home and rental cleaning machines ar interim cleaners and cannot provide a correct clean that a professional can. These machines can be counterproductive.
